La BORDEAUXTHÈQUE

Pomerol

Pomerol AOC (just barely 785 hectares) is located on the right bank of the Dordogne, north-west of Saint-Émilion. It is the smallest appellation, and among the best of Bordeaux which makes them much sought after and therefore rare on the market.

The soil is characterized by sedimentary and alluvial rocks covered by sand, gravel or clay deposits, the best terroir for Merlot, which is the most prevalent grape variety in Pomerol, with some Cabernet Franc or Cabernet Sauvignon.

The small Pomerol wineries produce generous and full-bodied wines, some of them world famous. They are marvelously rich and silky and offer complex aomas of red and black fruit, with hints of violet or truffle. They also have an exceptional aging potential.

Neighbor to Pomerol, Lalande de Pomerol AOC produces red Merlot-based wines in a similar style, but not with the same aging potential.
